Really impressive article. This articulates a ton of what I've been thinking about the past few months. People understand evolution at a very rudimentary level, but its implications go so much further. It's completely senseless to think that men and women should be equal in all things.. but here we are.

I think it's never been easy to have a sensible discussion of the natural place of men and women in the scheme of things but you've made a good attempt. It mostly gets bedeviled by feminist man-bitching, sexual mind-games on the one hand and defensive male bragging /bravado mind-games on the other.

In my view that sane discussion would need to encompass a complex reality in which some women can make great leaders and chief executives but MOST women want a basically semi-patriarchal, semi-submissive relationship to their husbands. I'm not holding my breath.

Excellent discussion! Far better than some other things I have read on the topic recently.

I find myself wondering if this whole cultural maladaption will just breed itself out, with more biologically functional pair bonding patterns out competing the less functional. It requires culture to be a bit more genetically transmitted, or at least more family transmission, but then this might be exactly the type of culture that is.

There is a lot of evidence of persistence of culture down family, particularly maternal, lines. In mixed race couples, having a Euro (“white”) mother is strongly more beneficial for the children than a Euro father.
